    Index Card Challenge Ever been challenged to fit your body through an index card? Most people would say that is impossible but when we put our STEM caps on, nothing is impossible. Let us show you how it's done! I'm a paragraph. I'm connected to your collection through a dataset. To update me, go to the Data Manager. The Data Manager is where you store data to use in your site pages, or collect data from site visitors when they submit a form. This collection in the Data Manager is already set up with some fields and content. To customize it with your own content, you can import a CSV file or simply edit the placeholder text. You can also add more fields which you can connect to other page elements so the content displays on your published site. Remember to sync the collection so your content is live! You can add as many new collections as you need to store or collect data. With Presets, we’ve handled the page set up for you, but you can create the exact same functionality in your other site pages. To connect page elements to data, the first step is to add a dataset to the page and choose the collection you want to use. From the dataset Settings panel, you can filter or sort the available items, decide how your users can interact with the page (read/write), and more. Next, select the element you want to connect to the data, and choose the field you want to connect it to. So simple! If you want to add even more capabilities, enable Developer Tools to use JavaScript and APIs to add custom interactions and functionality to your site.   • SUPPORT | STEM for Success

    STEM Education Support Program The STEM Education Support Program will partner with nonprofit and for-profit organizations seeking to meet their philanthropic goals in order to establish a collection of small grant opportunities designed primarily to reach demographics in K-12 schools that are underrepresented in STEM fields. These opportunities will support in-class and after school programs that culminate in tangible and authentic outcomes, including opportunities for students to exhibit their work products through participation in showcases and competitions. Student achievements will be highlighted at regular showcase events hosted by CLEAR and through various other outreach mechanisms and platforms. In addition, the program will support and facilitate professional learning for K-12 STEM educators and student learning and design projects that advance knowledge and practice towards college and career readiness in STEM-related fields. ​ Small grants disseminated as part of the STEM Education Support Program will be broken into the three major categories of STEM Materials and Supplies, Professional Development, and Events and Showcases. Donated funds will be aggregated into these three project grant categories for which eligible organizations will submit applications for support. STEM education organizations, such as schools, districts, and nonprofit organizations will be eligible to apply for support once they have signed the STEM for Success Pledge, which ensures that the applying organization, its executive, and its STEM initiative leader, are committed to the mission of promoting success through STEM. ​ Stay tuned as we develop and launch our STEM Education Support Program!

  • 321 STEM | STEM for Success

    The 321STEM Journal The upcoming 321 STEM will be a peer-review-style online journal hosted through NJIT’s Van Houten Library that will provide an outlet for students to showcase their current work, interact with other students, faculty and the larger academic community. This space will be curated and monitored to be a safe learning space as well as a good place to post on-going work and finished products for all ages. It will allow both written and video submissions that are not limited by narrow contest rules, topics, or disciplinary boundaries. In consultation with educators and STEM professionals, the 321 STEM kids journal will allow everyone to engage in the rewarding experiences of observing, reporting, critical thinking and communicating on the way to problem solving and collaborative, innovation, research and design. ​ Stay tuned for the future launch of the 321STEM Journal!

  • HANDS-ON STEM | STEM for Success

    Hands-on STEM Introduction: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) is prevalent in almost every field and career. By fostering discovery, engagement and learning in small teams, children are able to develop significant cognitive and interpersonal skills through STEM topics. The hands-on STEM resources provided assist all children to discover and pursue their passions through exposure to STEM activities, role models, and learning opportunities. Moreover, students will gain confidence as they are exposed to diverse integrated experiences, engage in problem solving with others, and then share their work while they showcase their progress. Key research shows that exposing children to STEM practices in context at an early age assists them in a variety of learning skills and competencies. Additionally, allowing children to work in small groups with hands-on minds-on activities aids in many areas of learning and social development. Finally, by providing opportunities to share and showcase work while responding to challenges and exploring different types of competitions, leads to a greater success in both STEM and in pursuit of other endeavors. The resources provided here are meant to assist parents, educators and other stakeholders to facilitate these engagements for children in all settings and situations. Purpose: Throughout these pages you will find information, recommendations, and sample activities that will enable you to establish and elevate your STEM program. We hope to be a system of support and inspiration for you and for children as they develop critical life skills through hands-on activities and projects and become excited about STEM. No single formula exists for creating and maintaining a STEM team or club since every situation, environment, and students are unique. With this, we hope to provide you with a basic framework to help you realize your purpose, focus, and approach to help your children’s success through STEM. Getting Started Based on the best practices and lessons from the LiFE project and the work of our partners, we have gathered information and key resources on how to get started as an individual or group organizer to promote success through STEM. This section will include information about how to start and run clubs, the obstacles, pitfalls and ways to overcome these. It also has commonly needed documents like permission slips, release forms, recruitment letters and fliers, agenda templates, etc. STEM in Your Home These are activities and lesson plans developed by our educators and student STEM role models. These role models prepare a video of an activity and promote STEM and answer questions as a way to support educators, parents and other stakeholders as they help kids practice hands-on, minds-on STEM wherever they may be. Another effort is to have periodic webinars/talks by STEM subject matter experts, for example, to relate their research and STEM related topics to K-12 audiences with opportunities for question and answer interactions.
